UPDATE: Police sergeant in fatal Mandeville crash identified

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A police Sergeant who died as a result of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle crash on the Winston Jones Highway in Mandeville on Sunday has been identified.

He is Sergeant Patrick Brown assigned to the Christiana police and the team leader of the Manchester north Operation Support Team.

Preliminary reports are that about 2:30 pm the policeman was driving a silver Honda Fit motorcar when the vehicle veered into the path of a truck laden with cattle resulting in a collision. The crash happened near the entrance of the Jamgas service station.

Brown’s colleague described the cop as a family man.

A security guard from a nearby establishment rushed told Observer Online that he helped two of the three injured children.

Police quickly responded to the scene and escorted a pickup truck transporting the then injured cop to hospital.

He was pronounced dead at hospital while the children were admitted.
