Purple Slush Family Fun Day, one of Jamaica’s most cherished family-oriented events, celebrates its 10 anniversary on July 12 at Colonel Cove in Morant Bay, St Thomas.

It is being recognised under the theme ‘A decade of celebration. A legacy of community. A future of hope’

This event, which will run from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, anticipates a turnout of over 3,000 patrons.

The entertainment line-up will be headlined by viral Internet sensation Kaka Highflames, known for his large youth following, alongside rising child music star Lyriii.

The crowd will also be treated to performances from Hilarious Granny and Kemarch Dodd, widely regarded as Jamaica’s #1 magician.

Public relations officer and long-time event organiser Talisa Taylor emphasised the significance of this year’s event.

“Purple Slush has never just been about amusement; it has always been about impact. For 10 years we’ve consistently supported St Thomas families through our charity work, school supply donations, and empowering events. As the parish undergoes physical transformation and economic growth, it is vital that we continue to nurture and uplift the people behind that progress,” she said.

Since its inception, Purple Slush has established itself as a transformative initiative in the eastern region of Jamaica. Rooted in the spirit of giving back, the event has grown significantly in scope and reach through the efforts of the organisers.

Over the years, the event has awarded scholarships to high-performing students, distributed school supplies to hundreds of families, and provided direct assistance to individuals facing economic hardship.

In 2025, Purple Slush Family Fun Day will build on this legacy with an expanded entertainment and engagement experience. Children will receive school bags and stationery on entry, while supplies last, as part of the annual ‘Pack-A-Bag’ campaign aimed at supporting back-to-school readiness across the parish.

All amusement rides, provided by Wild Rides Party Rentals, will be free throughout the day, reinforcing the event’s commitment to accessibility for all.

This year also features the introduction of the Parent Zone, powered by Double 7 Energy Drink, designed as a relaxation hub for adults. The space will offer games such as bingo, dominoes, ludo, and checkers, allowing parents to unwind while their children explore the event. Additionally, patrons will benefit from free health checks available throughout the day, further cementing the event’s dedication to overall well-being.

Taylor further expressed deep gratitude for the community support that has sustained the event over the years.

“This 10-year journey has been truly rewarding. Our mission has always been to offer premium family entertainment in a clean and secure space, while ensuring our children receive meaningful support. Purple Slush is a celebration of the heart and soul of St Thomas. I want to thank the St Thomas Municipal Corporation, the Morant Bay Fire Department, the police, and all our local partners for their consistent backing of this cause. Together, we’ve built something truly special for this parish,” she said.
