KINGSTON, Jamaica – Two-time World Athletics Championships medalist Rushell Clayton created a mild upset to retain her women’s 400m hurdles title, running a season’s best 53.81 seconds on Saturday at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Senior Championships at the National Stadium.
Clayton came into the championships with a best of 54.31 seconds, had raced only three times over the hurdles all season and was third best after the first round.
However, she ran a well-timed race and was clear in the lead with three hurdles to go, beating pre-championship favourite Andrenette Knight who was second with 54.52 seconds. Shiann Salmon was third in 54.65 seconds.
