LOUISIANA, United States — A four-year-old boy lost both his parents after they died in separate motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana last Friday, according to a report from WAFB.

The two, Alexus Lee and John “JR” Collins, were engaged to be married in February 2026.

The report said Lee lost control of her SUV, crashed into a culvert and overturned. When state police called Collins, in attempting to get to the scene, troopers said he also lost control of his own vehicle.

The young man hit a tree, was ejected and died. The report said neither of the parents was wearing a seatbelt.

They leave behind their four-year-old son.

“He understands what happened, and he’s just having a little problem comprehending that we can’t talk to them. We can’t see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God,” Collins’ mother, Sandra, told WAFB.

The report said Lee was a recent graduate of Southern University who taught at East Feliciana STEAM Academy, while Collins was a truck driver who loved sports cars. The couple had just bought a new home.
