ST ANN, Jamaica — Richmond FC improved their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the St Ann Football Association Major League after beating winless Dry Harbour 4-1 in their Zone A game played at Drax Hall on Tuesday.
Brandon Sweeney opened the scoring for Richmond in the fourth minute, and Errol Stevens scored his fourth of the season in the 34th minute to make it 2-0. Khanrode Brown made it 3-0 in the 78th minute and Romaine Thompson scored his fourth in the 81st minute.
It was the first time this season that any player from Richmond FC, aside from Stevens, had managed to score a goal.
Raheem Brown scored in the 89th minute for Dry Harbour, who have lost all three games played so far.
The win took Richmond to the top of the point tables with seven points, one more than King FA and Madras FC, both on six points, with Exchange in fourth place on four points.
In the second game, Andre Reid scored a hat-trick to lead Mt Edgecombe to a five-goal win.
The team came from 3-1 down to beat Higgin Town 5-3 in a Zone B game, the first time this season either team got at least a goal in any game.
Alrick McCalla had opened the scoring in the 13th minute for Higgin Town, but Reid scored in the 30th minute. Jimmy Gordon restored their lead in the 39th minute while Reid scored again in the 57th. Marco Simms responded with a goal in the 51st minute for Higgin Town but Leon Campbell scored in the 63rd minute for Mt Edgecombe. Reid completed his hat-trick in the 78th minute and Andane Williams also scored in the 80th minute for Mt Edgecombe.
On Thursday, Black Stars will play Moneague in the lone game at Drax Hall.
