Fritos Lays, a song recorded last year by dancehall artiste Raw Cashh, which sat in the studio unreleased until February, is one of the hottest songs on the dancehall scene at present.

The song, which topped the YouTube Trending charts in February, has changed the fortunes of the Manchester-based artiste, who had been knocking on the doors for a breakout song ever since he made his musical debut six years ago.

“Mi did a drop song and nobody never did a pay mi nuh mind. Mi remember mi a put out song and mi struggle fi get even 5,000 views pon YouTube. It wasn’t until mi switch things up and released Code is Life about a year ago that mi see the mi get some good views. No man nuh too gimmi nuh strength, mi strength up my ting. Mi deh country a get mi ting going wid di producer dem weh mi a work wid. Is a whole heap a fight weh mi go thru fi reach weh mi deh,” Raw Cashh told the
Jamaica Observer recently.

Fritos Lays was released via Chinnaman Records (producer Ronaldo Brown) earlier this year after a snippet made its way on social media platform TikTok, where it went viral.

“The song has really changed mi life, I’m getting more shows, more producers are linking me to record and more opportunities have been coming my way now. I used to do choppa songs but now, since mi start cater fi di ladies is a different vibe. When di girl dem love yuh, yuh go a far way inna di music. The girl dem a mi biggest fans dem right now,” said Raw Cashh.

Having a hit song has come with some disadvantages and Raw Cashh was quick to point out that his circle of associates has gotten smaller.

“When I started doing music, I had a couple a people around mi, but as the ting start tek off, dem switch and get greedy, some even a try run een back ya now,” he disclosed.

A past student of Holmwood Technical High, Raw Cashh (given name: Adrian Brown) is from the district of Hatfield, which is located near Spur Tree Hill Road in Manchester.

He describes himself as reserved, however, while attending high school, he often got into fights.

“I didn’t play any sports in school because I was often in fights and I was too ignorant fi mek nobody come kick mi dung pon nuh football field,” said Raw Cashh.

He continued, “Mi never had any interest in music when I was in school. It wasn’t until around 2019 that me start take it more serious.”

Said Raw Cashh, “Mi have some bangers to drop, so the fans can look out fi dem. Mi just a gwaan do this to the best of mi ability, keep to meself and do music.”
