Whether watching cable television or browsing social media, news of turmoil gripping the world is inescapable. Hopeton Lindo’s songwriting instincts kicked in while observing the global hostilities, resulting in The Times That We Are Living In.
Lindo wrote the song, which he co-produced with Syl Gordon for Irie Pen Records and Cell Block Records. It was released on April 18 by Zojak Worldwide.
While the track is inspired by dire situations, the veteran singer-songwriter insists The Times That We Are Living In is not about doom and gloom.
“The Times That We’re Living In inspires songs to uplift people. The message is in the music,” he said.
Lindo is best known for writing/co-writing lovers rock anthems like Red Rose For Gregory by Gregory Isaacs and J C Lodge’s Telephone Love. But he has also penned message songs like Territory, which he did in 1987 and Ragamuffin, a 1985 hit for Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor.
Interestingly, members of The Firehouse Crew, who backed Lindo on Territory almost 40 years ago, accompany him on The Times That We’re Living In. They include drummer George Miller, bassist Donald Dennis and keyboardist Paul Crossdale.
The Times That We Are Living In continues a prolific run for Lindo and Irie Pen Records. He and The Taxi Gang co-produced singer Peter G’s self-titled EP which was released in March.
