Thirty-one-year-old banker Shevauni Powell was on Sunday March 30 selected as Jamaica’s representative to the 10th staging of the Mr Supranational pageant.

Powell was selected from a field of five competitors, which included Sameer Maragh, Raymond Morrison, Jaheim Holloway and Keneil McLean.

Maragh and Holloway were the first and second runners-up, respectively.

The local franchise holder for Mr Supranational Jamaica is Atelier Dermoth Williams Limited, whose owners are Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams of Uzuri International. Uzuri International is the franchisee for the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant.

Powell, who is from Manchester, is a banker with JN Bank. A former head boy at Mile Gully High, he is presently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of Technology (UTech).

He shared that pageantry was not on his cards even though he received encouragement over the years.

“Over the years persons have been encouraging me. They believed that I have the attributes or qualities, but I never took up that opportunity. However, recently some friends mentioned the Mr Supranational pageant to me and I went and did some research, and decided to give it a try,” said Powell.

Powell, who represented his high school in football and track and field events, hopes to inspire others with the opportunity to represent the country on the global stage.

“This is a platform that I want to use to inspire other Jamaicans that they can dream big. I would also use this vehicle to promote brand Jamaica more on the world stage,” said Powell.
