Married Couple Charged Following Gun and Ammunition Seizure in St. Mary

MARRIED COUPLE CHARGED FOLLOWING GUN AND AMMUNITION SEIZURE IN ST. MARY

The St Mary Police and the Area Two Fugitive Apprehension Team (AFAT) have charged a married couple for breaches of the Firearms Act following the seizure of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition during an operation at their house in Orange, Field district, Castleton, in the parish on Tuesday, April 29.

They are 31-year-old landscaper Shamar Newby and his 30-year-old wife, Donesa Anderson-Newby.

Reports from the Port Maria Police are that at about 5:00 a.m., the team conducted a raid at a house in the community. During a search of the premises, a Steyr 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing twenty-three 9mm rounds was found hanging in a child’s knapsack on a bedroom wall.

The duo was taken into custody following the discovery and charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorised Possession of Ammunition.

The JCF remains resolute in its efforts to rid communities of illegal firearms and ensure public safety.
