TECHNICAL ENGINEER CHARGED WITH BREACHES OF THE FIREARMS ACT
Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition charges have been laid against a 29-year-old technical engineer in relation to a firearm and ammunition seizure along Anchovy Main Road in St James on Saturday, April 26.
He is Chavoy McKenzie of Amity in Westmoreland.
Reports from the Montego Bay Police are that at about 10:00 p.m., during a coordinated roadblock, McKenzie, who was driving a red Honda Civic motor car, was signalled to stop; he complied, and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Five 9mm cartridges were found in the driver’s door pocket. A further check led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol affixed with a magazine containing five 9mm rounds in a black bag on the rear passenger seat. McKenzie was taken into custody, where he was formally charged on Monday, April 28.
A court date is being arranged for him.
