Visitors to Hope Botanical Gardens on Sunday, August 31, got a little extra in the form of a free car show, Beasts & BBQ, put on by Velocity Jamaica.
“The event was extremely sensational from start to finish. It had a massive turnout of patrons and, of course, an unbelievable display of some of Jamaica’s best cars. The Velocity team really outdid themselves, and I am extremely grateful to work with a team so passionate and dedicated to providing unmatched entertainment to our fellow Jamaicans,” Raheem Hall, director, Velocity Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
Hall and fellow Velocity Jamaica directors Daniel Fraser and Justin Campbell explained that they put on Beasts & BBQ as a space for the automotive community to come together to share their passion and enjoy good food.
Throughout the afternoon, cars of varying variety pulled in and out of the venue, producing a constant rotation of vehicular eye candy. It all built up to an intensity as fans lined the exit road with their cameras trying to get as much video of the cars that attended for their social media feeds.
“The feedback was overwhelmingly filled with gratitude and excitement. Many expressed appreciation because there are no other car meets that deliver this level of energy and quality at no cost. People also valued our creativity in staging the event, as it stood out from others by being set amidst the greenery of Hope Gardens and offering a wide variety of food options. As a result, many attendees shared their support for our movement, and there is now strong anticipation for our next event,” said Campbell.
This was not Velocity Jamaica’s first event, having hosted several car shows, most recently at The University of the West Indies in April.
“We couldn’t have made it possible without the support of our amazing sponsors — VM, Porsche, Red Bull, and All Power. Big respect for fuelling the vision. The feedback has been incredible; people really love the concept, and it’s clear this is something we’ll definitely have to do again,” said Fraser.
