The Q6 e-tron Quattro is not just another new Audi, it’s the pathway on which the brand will move all other models into the future, and not just with electric power.
Rather than repurposing or sharing a chassis with an internal combustion engine model, the Q6 e-tron is ground up new on the electric-only Premium Platform Electric (PPE), reaping significant benefits.
EXTERIOR
From a visual standpoint, the Q6 e-tron is an attractive design, bearing the newest version of the e-tron grille, now closed and inverted. The Q6 appears lower than it is due to sporty body lines that converge towards its rear, and the short overhangs.
Audi’s sporty nature is reflected in the blistered arches drawn from the e-tron GT Quattro and, even further, its rally history with the iconic Ur Quattro. Audi has continued to push the automotive light game, bringing Matrix-LED and laser lights to the masses. That trend continues in the Q6 e-tron as it boasts second-generation OLED lighting with a world first — active digital lighting signatures on front and rear.
INTERIOR
As with the exterior, Audi technology moves to the next level. In a primarily digital world, it’s all about the screens, and the Q6 e-tron Quattro comes with three of them. The driver gets an 11.9-inch screen for the updated Audi virtual cockpit, plus an augmented reality head-up display. The Audi MMI system is now part of the new curved panoramic display feature, combining its 14.5-inch screen with the driver’s display. Optional for passengers is a 10.9-inch display.
Behind the sharp graphics and fluent motion is software built with the Android Automotive operating system for even more interactivity and connectivity. Third-party apps can be downloaded directly to the infotainment, on top of standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the system can handle two simultaneously connected smartphones.
While the beloved Audi MMI wheel is long gone, the Audi Assistant has been expanded with over 800 voice commands, gained self-learning capabilities, and features more vehicle integration for a better understanding of natural language operation.
All this comes on top of the premium convenience features and material quality expected from an Audi. It begins with seamless keyless entry to the heated and ventilated seats, led by puddle lamps. Every major operation is powered or automated. Ambient lighting is now active, alerting drivers to things such as charging status and level. PPE brings more benefits in terms of interior space, giving more room for passengers and their cargo.
ON THE ROAD
In urban settings the Q6 e-tron Quattro operates butter-smooth, allowing the occupants to absorb the technology and convenience features around them. Switch to DYNAMIC or press the accelerator deeper results in the vehicle accessing the performance side of its personality. Acceleration is smooth and train-like up to its 210km/h limit. By this time, 100km/h would have been dispatched in 5.9 seconds. With the 100kWh battery low in the body and feeding the electric motors at each axle for the legendary Quattro all-wheel drive, the Audi can be hustled down a B-road with confidence, the braking and suspension, just as smooth as its forward momentum.
Real-world driving will see range into the 300-mile region, including the regen function, allowing for worry-free motoring. When it comes to charging, tap to open either of the ports, the Q6 e-tron Quattro can accept up to 270kWh DC fast charging, or 11kWh on standard AC power.
Using the metaphorical fresh sheet of paper for the Q6 e-tron, Audi has redefined what it will be going forward. Moving to PPE has brought technological, practical, electric charging speed and range, along with driving dynamic improvements, causing the Q6 e-tron Quattro to continue Audi’s long tradition of matching practical everyday usability, with subtle performance.
