Kingston, Jamaica—Opposition Spokesperson on Sports Wavell Hinds is calling on the relevant authorities to confirm whether all systems are in place for the day/night Test match between West Indies and Australia, set to begin at Sabina Park on Friday, July 12, 2025.

Hinds, in a statement on Monday, said while the installation of lights at the venue is a welcome development and a step forward for cricket in Jamaica, reports suggesting that final approvals are still pending raise legitimate concerns about readiness.

“With just days to go before the first ball is bowled, the public deserves to know whether all infrastructure is fully operational,” said Hinds.

“Have the lights passed all necessary tests and received final certification? Is the electronic scoreboard functioning properly? Has the venue been inspected and cleared for night play by all relevant governing bodies?” he questioned.

Additionally, Hinds noted that the return of Test cricket to Sabina Park is a landmark event that must be executed to the highest standard.

“Jamaican fans are excited, the region is watching, and the world will be tuning in. We cannot afford to have any technical or logistical setbacks. It is imperative that all systems, including lighting, scoreboard, and other match-day infrastructure, are confirmed and ready well in advance of the opening day,” he said.

Hinds is urging the Ministry of Sports and the Jamaica Cricket Association to provide an immediate update to the Jamaican public and ensure that all outstanding issues are resolved before the start of play.

“This is not just a game, it is an opportunity to showcase Jamaica’s capacity to host world-class cricket. Let us ensure we get it right,” Hinds concluded.
