PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Monday said it had rescued eight Venezuelans, including two minors, in a case of suspected human trafficking.

The TTPS said that officers of the National Special Operations Unit, with assistance from personnel of the Canine Branch and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Special Operations Unit, conducted an intelligence-led exercise in the Central Division on Sunday.

“During the exercise, officers proceeded to a house …where three local males were arrested and eight Spanish-speaking females, including two minors, were rescued,” the TTPS said.

The police said that the Immigration Enforcement Section and the Counter-Trafficking Unit were notified and that one pistol, loaded with a magazine containing one round of ammunition, was also seized at the scene.

They said that the male suspects face charges of human trafficking and possession of firearms and ammunition.
