LOUISANNA, United States — A Louisanna man who murdered his three-month-old son by sealing the child in a bucket of laundry detergent has been sentenced to 92 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down against Eliasard Moneus, a 29-year-old Haitian immigrant, last week after he pleaded guilty to murdering the boy and attempting to kill his wife.
According to WIBC, as part of a plea agreement, several other charges including aggravated battery, criminal confinement, and domestic battery were dismissed.
The case began when Moneus’s wife called 911 and was taken to the hospital, where she told authorities that her husband had beaten her with a tire iron. Police later arrested Moneus at his apartment. During questioning, he denied knowing the whereabouts of their infant son, Jacob, prompting the Lafayette Police Department to issue a Silver Alert on August 10.
The baby was found dead the next morning, August 11. His body was discovered in a bucket beside a kitchen trash can, and investigators revealed that he had been asphyxiated. Authorities also noted that the bucket contained liquid laundry detergent, which Moneus had attempted to use to conceal the crime.
Moneus’s guilty plea spared him a trial, but the gravity of the offences resulted in a near-century-long sentence.
