MONTEGO BAY, St James- A St James man has been charged with murder following the shooting of a security guard along Barnett Street in the parish on June 16.
Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher Hunt, otherwise known as ‘Alkaline’ of Katon Lane, Mount Salem, St James, has been slapped with multiple charges including murder, robbery with aggravation, using a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Dead is 37-year-old Garry Hamilton of Albion Road, Montego Bay, also in the parish.
Reports from the police are that about 5:54 pm, Hamilton was standing outside a business establishment when, Hunt approached him and tried to force him inside. When his attempt failed, Hunt reportedly opened gunfire at Hamilton before robbing the establishment and fleeing the area. The police were alerted, and on their arrival, Hamilton was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation which included the review of CCTV footage, Hunt was apprehended in St Catherine a day after he committed the act.
He was formally charged on Wednesday, June 25, after he confessed to committing the crimes during a question-and-answer session. His court date is being arranged.
