KINGSTON, Jamaica — National record holder Ackera Nugent continued her preparation for the JAAA National Championships due in another two weeks.
This, after she placed second in the 100m hurdles at Sunday’s Bauhaus Galan at Olympiastadion in Stockholm, Sweden, the seventh stop on the Wanda Diamond League series.
The former World Under-20 Championships gold medalist and NCAA winner clocked 12.37 seconds (1.4m/s) to finish behind American Grace Stark who ran a season’s best 12.33 seconds to break the meeting record.
Stark, who edged ahead of Nugent in the World Athletics rankings, broke the meet record of 12.38 seconds that was set in 2018 by another American, Brianna McNeal. Nadine Visser of the Netherlands finished third in 12.49 seconds.
Meanwhile, Olympic Games record holder Roje Stona was sixth in the men’s discus throw with a best of 64.68m as Slovenia’s Kristja Ceh won with 69.73m ahead of Sweden’s Daniel Stahl who threw a season’s best 69.53m. Australia’s Matthew Denny was third with 68.14m.
Ackelia Smith was ninth in the women’s long jump with 6.55m (0.6m/s) as American Tara Davis-Woodhall won with a season’s best 7.05m (1.3m/s) which equalled the meeting record held by Galina Chistyakova of the Slovak Republic since 1989.
Italy’s Larissa Iapichino was second with a wind-aided 6.90m (3.6m/s) with American Jasmine Moore third with a wind-aided 6.76m (2.4m/s).
