KINGSTON, Jamaica — Runaway leaders Frazsiers Whip FC should secure their place in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League on Saturday, if they avoid losing to last placed Springers United in their return round game set to be played at Excelsior High, starting at 3:30 pm.
Frazsiers Whip FC, the defending champions, lead with 39 points, winning all 13 games played so far and leading in just about every category.
Springers United have won just once this season and have managed to score just eight goals, and could lose by an even wider margin than the 8-0 beating they picked up in the first round.
Meanwhile, second-placed Cavalier SC will seek to inch closer to their own semi-final qualification, while Los Perfectos FC and Arnett Gardens will be hoping to keep their distance from the rest of the competition.
Cavalier SC will be home at Alpha Boys Home to Proven Girls who they had beaten 4-1 in the first round, and will start as favourites to win again Saturday and stay clear of third-placed Los Perfectos FC.
Shanel Spence, the top scorer for Cavalier SC, is on 20 goals and will hope to improve on that against a team that has conceded 42 goals in their 13 games played.
One point separates Los Perfectos FC and Arnett Gardens, who are playing Real MoBay AFC UWI Women’s, respectively.
Los Perfectos will be hoping for a second win over Real MoBay when they meet at Jarrett Park after winning 5-0 in the first round.
Veniecia Reid, Shasahana Campbell and Andrene Smith have combined to score 33 of Los Perfectos FC’s 41 goals, and Real MoBay AFC could be stretched to keep them at bay on Saturday.
Arnett Gardens will be hoping to avenge their first round 3-0 loss to UWI Women’s FC, who have lost their last four games and have slipped down the points table to sixth spot.
UWI Women’s FC have managed a single goal in their last four games while conceding 12 of their 25 goals conceded all season, and will hope to stop the slide Saturday.
WiFi United will hope to win back-to-back games for only the second time this season when they take on Federal United at Carder Park after winning their first round game 2-0.
Saturday Games:
Wifi United vs Federal United — Carder Park
Arnett Gardens FC vs UWI Women’s FC — Anthony Spaulding Complex
Frazsiers Whip FC vs Springers United FC — Excelsior High
Cavalier SC vs Proven Girls SC — Alpha Boys Home
