FitMeals founder scores big with Heineken trip to Germany

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tanya Ramson’s entrepreneurial journey has been one of passion, persistence, and balance. The founder of FitMeals, a health-conscious restaurant and meal prep service, Ramson’s hard work is now being celebrated with an all-expenses-paid trip to Germany, courtesy of Heineken.

The reward comes as part of the UEFA Champions League promotion, marking a moment of recognition for Ramson’s journey from a small home-based operation to a flourishing business on Lady Musgrave Road.

Raised in a family of culinary enthusiasts, Ramson’s passion for food and business began at a young age. Influenced by her parents, who ran Easispice Manufacturers Limited, Ramson grew up immersed in both the culinary world and entrepreneurial spirit.

It was this early exposure that led her to pursue a degree at the University of Technology, Jamaica, where she combined her love for food with a business acumen that would later drive her success, opening the door to a series of opportunities, from an internship in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the Hardrock Café to serving as a tapas chef at OPA! Greek Restaurant and Lounge in Jamaica. Each experience sharpened her skills but deepened her desire to build something of her own.

Ramson’s entrepreneurial journey took an unexpected turn after a personal transformation that reshaped both her health and her future. Following the birth of her first daughter, she reached 200 pounds, which became a pivotal moment in her life. Determined to regain control, she adopted a new approach to health.

Reflecting on this change, Ramson shared, “At 200 pounds, I really decided to get strict and make healthier choices with my diet. So, I began learning about balanced meals and the impact they could have on my body. I started prepping meals for myself, and then for my friends and family, who were curious about my transformation and also tasted the meals I would prepare.”

What started in 2018 as a small, home-based meal prep service, serving just about 10 customers a day, soon became a flourishing business. Then in 2020, Ramson saw an opportunity to expand, relocating to a commercial kitchen on Seymour Avenue with a small but dedicated team of three. There, they continued to prepare meals for delivery, though only able to operate a few days out of the week.

Today, Fit Meals serves hundreds of customers daily and has expanded into a bustling restaurant on Lady Musgrave Road, offering a full dining experience.

“When I first started the business, the earnings were modest, but I remained committed. With a venture like this, consistency is key, and that’s exactly what I did — I kept showing up, day in and day out, trusting that persistence would eventually pay off,” she reflected.

Her business growth, though gradual, has been organic, driven by her passion for healthy eating, a keen understanding of her customers’ needs, and a tireless work ethic.

Ramson took it one step at a time — setting and achieving incremental goals, from serving 10 customers to eventually hitting 200 daily orders. The key growth factors included the consistent delivery of wholesome meals, savvy social media marketing, and word-of-mouth from loyal customers, many of whom have been with her from the beginning, including her very first customer, who still orders daily.

As with her business, Ramson’s personal life reflects a steady pursuit of balance. Though health remains a top priority, she has never been one to shy away from simple pleasures, like cracking open a cold beer while cooking or relaxing with friends.

So naturally, during a routine supermarket run with her partner, she decided to pick up a case of Heineken. Approached by a brand ambassador and encouraged to enter the UEFA Champions League promotion, Ramson was initially hesitant. “I’ve never been lucky with things like this,” she admitted. “But I figured, why not?”

She was surprised to learn she had been selected as one of the lucky winners. Now preparing for her first trip to Germany, she’s soaking in the moment. “I’m really looking forward to the experience — trying the local beers, exploring the culture, enjoying the food, and of course, watching the games.”

For Ramson, the upcoming trip is a well-deserved getaway and a chance to draw fresh inspiration from a new culture — flavours, techniques and experiences she hopes to bring back and infuse into her FitMeals menu.

However, her vision for growth, improvement and expansion doesn’t stop there. While expanding the restaurant’s offerings and refining the dining experience are part of her immediate plans, she dreams even bigger.

Ramson envisions FitMeals becoming a household name across Jamaica, with multiple locations serving communities islandwide.

“I want to make healthy eating more accessible to more people, no matter where they live,” declared Ransom.
