As singing sensation D’Yani continues his meteoric rise on the local and international music scene, the entertainer is fast becoming a dancehall heart-throb.
With the kind of content that creates sexual tension between himself and his female fan base, the Goddess singer became the latest dancehall artiste to have female undergarments thrust at him on stage.
In a video now circulating on social media, the artiste, while performing on stage in London, England, recently, was left stunned after an object flew across the stage, inches away from his face. Later identified as a pair of panties, the shocking moment interrupted the singer’s set briefly as he had to regroup.
D’Yani managed to find humour in the situation, but urged his female fans not to throw any more.
“Big up yourself. Don’t throw no more,” he said with a laugh.
Speaking with the Jamaica Observer following the incident, D’Yani shared that he understands that he is now widely considered a sex symbol in the dancehall sphere. Still, knowing all too well that label can carry raunchy connotations, the entertainer says he prefers to be remembered as the singer who wooed the ladies through style and grace. He’s now hoping to strike a much-needed balance between being a heartthrob and commanding respect.
“I don’t really label myself like that [a sex symbol]. Mi just try to be authentic and express love inna different ways through the music. If the people see me that way, mi give thanks, but I see myself more as an artiste on a mission than a title,” he shared, stating his content, though sometimes sexually charged, is meant to be sophisticated.
“Love and sensuality don’t haffi be raw or degrading. It can be elegant, it can be uplifting. That’s the space I try to create — where people can feel good about themselves and still feel respected,” he explained to Splash.
The Feelings singer says he’s still unsure if he’s ready to embrace all that comes with being a ‘sex symbol’, particularly surprise “panty-throwing” moments.
“Mi nuh know if mi ready for all of that yet, but mi give thanks for the love. It’s part of the journey, and mi just try to handle everything with grace. At the end of the day, it’s the fans showing appreciation in their own way, and I appreciate them. Just as long as we keep it respectful, I’m good,” D’Yani shared.
Respect, he admits, is a two-way street, which is why he admits to being intentional with his image. Often seen commanding the stage in perfectly tailored suits, D’Yani said his sharp appearance is a sign that he’s aware of his role as a gentleman in music and one who takes extreme pride in catering to his core fans.
“Women deserve to feel celebrated in every way. If mi can connect with them and lift them up through the way mi present myself, then mi know mi doing something right,” he said. “It’s intentional in the sense that I want the image to match the music. When mi step out, I want people to see the respect I have for the art form and for them as fans. Dressing sharp is just one way of showing that respect.
“It’s all about balance. I want the fans to enjoy themselves fully, but mi also have to set boundaries. Energy management is key — I give them my all on stage, but mi keep it respectful. At the same time, mi make sure the ladies know they’re valued,” he continued. “Sometimes mi deh pon stage and mi see tears inna people eyes, or dem singing word for word, and mi heart just full. That’s not something money can buy; that’s pure love. It makes me want to give more every time.”
Indicating that he’s had a successful 2025 so far, D’Yani says he has even more in store for 2026 as his base continues to grow.
He shared that touring for the majority of this year has earned him new fans and, come 2026, he’s looking to capitalise on that even further.
“[The year] 2025 has been a blessing; mi give thanks every day. It’s been a year of growth, both musically and personally. I’ve been seeing doors open that I only used to dream about, and the love from the people keeps me grounded. So mi just stay focused and keep working,” he said. “Just expect more music, more growth, more reaching the people. Mi working on expanding the catalogue, connecting with new audiences, and keeping the message of love alive. The journey continues, and mi just want the fans to know we’re just getting started.”
