Mechanic charged after striking policeman with motor vehicle

KINGSTON, Jamaica – A 28-year-old mechanic has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after allegedly using his motor vehicle to hit a policeman on Eastwood Park Road, Kingston 10, on Wednesday, September 10.

Charged is Renaldo Williams of Flint Close, Hellshire, St Catherine.

Reports from the Half-Way Tree Police are that about 6:00pm, a policeman observed Williams disobeying a red traffic light and signaled him to stop.

Williams reportedly complied, but after a brief interaction, he reportedly wound up his window, ignored the policeman’s instructions, accelerated and used his motor vehicle to hit the cop.

He reportedly sped off but was apprehended shortly afterwards during an operation along Half-Way Tree Road in St Andrew.

The policeman sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Williams is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, October 3.
