PNP’s Aujaé Dixon demands update on Rock River Dam

June 4, 2025

CLARENDON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) standard-bearer for Clarendon North Central, Dr Aujaé Dixon, is demanding that the Government provide an update on the much touted Rock River Dam project, which he says, is overdue.

“The residents of Rock River and the constituency on a whole have been victims of many promises from the Government to provide water; the latest being the 5- million gallon facility promised by the prime minister in his budget presentation in 2023 with a 1-2 year completion timeline. It is now over 2 years that this promise was made with a 2- year timeline and the residents are still awaiting water,” said Dixon.

“This is another in a long string of promises for water including the project where pipes were laid ahead of 2016 elections then dug up and relocated subsequent to the election,” he added.

Dixon lamented that despite Minister Matthew Samuda’s promise in November 2024 that the work on the crucial project would be underway by early January, and another promise in March 2025 that by the first week of April the project will have started, nothing has commenced to date.

“After 23 consecutive years of holding the reins in North Central Clarendon, I am concerned that the JLP is seeking to pull wool over the eyes of constituents again as has been customary in election years,” Dixon added.

Dixon states that he and other residents in the Clarendon North Central constituency are frustrated by the lack of water which, he says, has caused them to resort to purchasing water persistently.
