WATCH: Sprinter ‘honoured’ as Ashoka Road renamed Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Drive

May 25, 2025

Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce received another accolade today after a road in Waterhouse, St Andrew, was renamed in her honour.

Ashoka Road, where Fraser-Pryce grew up, will now be known as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Drive following a renaming ceremony held by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).

However, the sign which was unveiled, will have to be changed after her last name incorrectly spelt as ‘Fraser-Price’.

Regardless, Fraser-Pryce, the multiple Olympic and World Champion, says she was overwhelmed by the decision and hopes to continue to inspire the youth in the community.

The move comes just months after she was given the keys to the city by Kingston’s Mayor Andrew Swaby.

Fraser-Pryce is currently preparing for the National Senior Championships next month as she aims to qualify for the Tokyo World Championships in September.
