Socaphiles ‘wuk up a sweat’ at Brunch and Soca

Socaphiles had a riproaring good time as they were able to ‘wuk up a sweat’ during the Brunch and Soca: Riddim and Rum’ event at the Police Officers Club on Hope Road last Friday.

Skimpily clad female patrons had a great time especially as they were able to wine and cavort to a steady stream of music from a virtual who’s who of bonafide party pleasers like Young Chow, DJ Q, DJ Peckham, Kidd and Entourage, Selector Watty, Franco and Brush, and Selectah Kerry and Patrick the Hypeman.

The early vibes were created by Selector Watty, and the duo Franco and Bush, and they played popular hits such as Kerwin Du Boi’s Monster Whiner, Fadda Fox’s Ducking, and Yung Breda’s The Greatest Bend Ova.

The heavy hitters such as Young Chow and DJ Peckham turned up later and spewed out a heady mix of hit songs such as Mical Teja’s Energy, Full Blown’s No Sweetness featuring Kes, and Machel Montana’s uptempo Her Mudda which ensured that the socaphiles had an incredible time and could ‘wuk up a sweat’.

The premium all-inclusive event blazed a scorching trail at this memorable carnival pre-event that, in its second year, has become a must-attend party on the calendar. One female patron, who made the trek from New York, said “that the Jamaican vibe and energy is incredible”.

“The mix between the dancehall and the soca is just unmatched. No year cannot miss me I’m addicted at this point, Easter vacation in Jamaica is a must,” she mused.

Jonell “Hova” Goodluck, aka the Brunch King, was pleased with the incredible turnout for the event whose “Riddim & Rum” theme was crafted specifically for Jamaica.

“The event was a huge success as it captured the island’s deep rooted love for music and rum, two pillars of Jamaican culture. The DJ lineup knew how to move a crowd, a high-energy mix of soca, dancehall, and few global hits to keep the vibes high…it was pure shellings!” Goodluck said.

Patrons were kept hydrated throughout the high adrenaline event and when they got ravenously hungry, they were treated to a wonderful smorgasbord of delectable delights.

The next stop on the Brunch And Soca tour is Atlanta on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Palm Beach ATL.
