The Chesterfield Bridge will improve the quality of life for the people of Castleton and the Chesterfield community in St Mary.

For years residents have at times had to brave flood waters by crossing a footbridge in the Wag Water River, in order to access their homes.

The bridge will give residents of Chesterfield respite from the ravages of the Wag Water River, which separates Chesterfield from Castleton, during the annual hurricane season.

The Chesterfield bridge is a 12-tonne structure that can accommodate single-lane vehicular traffic

The four-metre-wide compact modular bridge consists of 18 bays spanning 57 metres across the Wag Water River, with side panels about 1.3 metres high and the underside of which is about six to seven metres above water.

Valued at J$58 million, it is one of 66 projects implemented under the J$5.83-billion local component of the Major Infrastructure Development Programme.
