KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former national champions Mt Pleasant FA are through to the semi-finals of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Caribbean Cup competition, after beating Trinidad and Tobago team Central FC 2-0 in their Group A game played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Tuesday.
Mt Pleasant FA, who had failed to get past the group stages last season, won their third straight game, improving to nine points, without conceding a goal and has a game in hand against Universidad O&M FC on September 30.
Despite dominating the possession and the chances, Mt Pleasant FA had to wait until the 51st minute to get the opening goal when Raheem Edwards was sent through by Alex Marshall and his left-footed shot from the centre of the box beat goalkeeper Jabari Brice.
The Jamaican team secured the points in the 90th minute after Brice failed to hold on to a shot from Angelo Éxilus and Chevaughn Walsh punched the loose ball home from two feet out.
