ST ANDREW, Jamaica- A motor vehicle crash on the Dublin Castle Road in St Andrew on Tuesday, has left several people, including school children and a bus driver, nursing injuries.
Preliminary reports are that about 3:15 pm, a white Toyota Hiace bus transporting students from St Martin de Porres Primary School and Louise Bennett-Coverley Primary School developed mechanical problems while traveling on the roadway.
It is alleged that the driver heard a ‘bubbling’ sound, then the vehicle stalled.
He reportedly managed to evacuate the students and restart the bus.
However, after reloading the passengers and attempting to drive off, the bus again stalled, rolled backward down the hill, climbed a banking, and overturned.The driver sustained burn injuries to his hands and back, as well as what appeared to be a broken arm.
Eight students also suffered injuries in the incident.
Police assisted in transporting the injured to the University Hospital of the West Indies for treatment.
The police are investigating.
