TOKYO, Japan — National champion Bryan Levell was in brilliant form as he ran 19.78 seconds (0.0m/s) to win his semi-final heat of the men’s 200m on day six of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Levell’s time was the second best of the round, behind American defending champion Noah Lyles, who ran a world-leading 19.51 seconds (1.0m/s) to win his semi-final, setting up what could be an epic final on day seven.

Levell finished ahead of Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, who eased through the finish line in 19.95 seconds.

Despite both lowering their personal best times, Adrian Kerr— 20.08 seconds (1.0m/s) and Christopher Taylor— 20.21 seconds (-0.1m/s), both fifth in their races, failed to advance.

Kerr lowered his previous best of 20.09 seconds set earlier this year, while Taylor dipped under the 20.26 seconds set in the first round.
