UPDATE: Man killed in Mandeville apartment stand-off with police

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A gunman is dead after a near three-hour stand-off with police at an apartment complex on Caledonia Road in Mandeville, Manchester.

It is understood that sometime around 10:00 am Tuesday, cops were in the vicinity of the apartment complex when a shooting occurred. Several police teams responded, including from the Manchester police, the Area Three police and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, resulting in a standoff between the assailant and the cops.

The shooting subsided shortly after 1:00 pm and the police later confirmed that the suspect was killed. He has not been identified.

No members of the security forces were injured.

Speaking with Observer Online shortly after the incident, one eyewitness shared, “I was watching what was taking place and the only thing I hear is pam, pam, pam, pam. The dawg just waving the rifle like he was in the military, you know? It was a good shootout because he make police come from Clarendon, Kingston, he make big history in the system but one thing I never want to happen they shouldn’t kill him. We did want him because he was a bad shooter. Only thing I hear pam pam pam.”

Members of the security forces are now leaving the area while others are gathering for a meeting.

Caledonia Road has been the scene of several incidents since Tuesday morning. Earlier, a man was reported dead following a series of events including a shooting and a two-vehicle crash on Caledonia Road which led to heightened police presence in the area.
