KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Minister of Education, Youth, Skills, and Information, Senator Dana Morris Dixon, says he is elated at the number of women who are set to enter the House of Representatives following Wednesday’s general election.

“I am also very happy about the women in Parliament. Based on last night’s count there are 19. We will see what happens with the final counts; that is a very big. It is a very big thing for the women of Jamaica. It is very important that women’s voices are heard, and I know that on this side we have emphasised women and encouraging women to be a part of this political process, and we are very happy to see that number,” she said.

Morris Dixon, who was speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) press conference on Thursday, says she is proud of the women of both political parties who have taken up the mantle to serve the Jamaican people.

“Just generally proud of our women on both sides who have decided to take up this calling. It is not easy to enter this political arena as a woman, and I am so very happy about that,” she added.
