Couples to ‘rise in wellness’ at Rooted, Renewed & Rise Retreat

Daily yoga will be part of the experience at the Rooted, Renewed & Rise Retreat, say organisers.

PORTLAND, Jamaica – Yoga Angels International and Great Huts Eco Resort have partnered to host a retreat which they say empowers women to support the men they love through wellness and heart health.
The Rooted, Renewed & Rise Retreat will take place June 7–8 at Great Huts in Boston Bay, Portland.

Noting that Jamaica faces a silent epidemic in the form of cardiovascular disease the island’s number one killer, Yoga Angels International and Great Huts say the retreat offers women a unique opportunity to become part of the solution – to rise in love and leadership, learning how to care for their own hearts while supporting their husbands, partners, and families in living longer, healthier lives.

“Women are the heart of the home,” said Sandra “Subhadra” Griffiths, founder of Yoga Angels International, in a press release. “When we rise in wellness, we lift our families with us. This retreat will teach women how to model self-care, support their partners, and even meditate together as a couple.”

Rooted in yoga, mindfulness, and culturally rich connection, the retreat features practices that help women and their partners reduce stress, strengthen emotional intimacy, and learn practical tools to combat lifestyle-related illness—like heart disease, which is disproportionately affecting Jamaican men, the release stated

According to the organisers, this year’s retreat includes a special focus on men’s health, offering women insight into:

• Understanding and preventing cardiovascular disease in their partners;
• Mindful communication and emotional connection;
• Leading by example in healthy habits and conscious eating;
• Meditation and movement practices couples can share at home; and
• Creating space for men to heal, rest, and reconnect—in a culture that often expects them to be strong, silent, and overburdened

“We invite women to bring their partners or come alone to learn how to bring wellness home,” said Subhadra.

Organisers added that the retreat experience includes:

• Daily Yoga & Conscious Movement
• Grounding Meditation & Couples Breathwork
• Self-Love & Empowerment Practices
• Nutritious, Heart-Healthy Jamaican Meals
• Live Soulful Music & Sacred Sound
• Deep Community & Cultural Connection
• Space for Reflection, Romance, and Renewal
