World Relays: Jamaica women’s 4x400m a no show for second round – Tokyo qualification at risk

May 11, 2025

Jamaica’s women’s 4x400m team did not show up for their second round race at the World Relays in Guangzhou, China on Sunday, dashing their hopes of early qualification for the Tokyo World Championships in September.

The top three teams in each of the two second round races earn a spot in the World Championships. It means Jamaica will now have to earn one of the remaining spots for Tokyo with a time qualification and will have to wait until the end of the qualifying period in August to know their fate.

The Jamaican quartet of Jodean Williams, Roneisha McGregor, Kelly-Ann Beckford and Ronda Whyte had finished last place overall in the first round with a time of 3:40.54 minutes.

Williams, with a bandage on her right hamstring, literally jogged the opening leg.
