KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a $2 million reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the murder of a 14-year-old girl who was shot in the head during a drive-by shooting In Olympic Way more than two weeks ago.
Speaking at the opening of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s JamaicaEye Control Centre, Holness urged Jamaicans to break their silence and help bring the killers to justice. He also asked National Security Minister Horace Chang to increase the reward to provide greater incentive.
The prime minister, visibly moved as he recounted the child’s final moments, asking her mother for money to buy crab, condemned the violence and called for nationwide support for victims rather than criminals.
“It is time that Jamaica stands up and be definitive. We must stand up for the victims.” said Holness.
“Every Jamaican should resolve that we must get rid of the criminals” he added.
He announced plans to install cameras on Olympic Way and surrounding areas as part of efforts to track down the perpetrators.
